The Courage to Be Still

There was a time I thought being busy meant being useful.

That constant movement was proof of purpose.

But the more I ran, the more my body whispered, “Please stop.”

Stillness isn’t laziness, it’s the space where healing begins. When you pause, your nervous system recalibrates, your hormones find balance, and your spirit remembers safety. In stillness, the body stops fighting for survival and starts speaking the truth it’s been holding in.

I learned this the hard way. During a season of burnout, I realised that my body wasn’t betraying me, it was begging for peace. Every headache, every sleepless night, every hormonal flare-up was an invitation to slow down.

In Women, Food and Hormones, Dr Sara Gottfried explains that stress hormones like cortisol can disrupt every other hormone in the body, from insulin to estrogen. The more we rush, the more our bodies hold on to weight, inflammation, and fatigue. Balance begins not in the gym or kitchen, but in the nervous system.

And as Heather Plett reminds us in The Art of Holding Space, healing often happens in the quiet, in that “liminal space” between what was and what’s becoming. Stillness gives the soul permission to grieve, release, and remember who she really is.

So today, I invite you to pause. Not as a luxury, but as a spiritual discipline.

Sit with your tea. Place your hand on your chest. Feel your breath find you again.

You don’t need to be loud to be powerful.

You don’t need to prove your worth through motion.

Stillness is strategy.

🌸 Try This

Before reacting to anything today, breathe.

Three deep belly breaths.

Inhale calm, exhale control.

💭 Reflection
When was the last time you sat in silence without rushing to fix or post?

“When a woman rests, the world recalibrates.” 🌿
